How to Help the Homeless Community During a Pandemic

Updated: Apr 6, 2022

Coronavirus will leave a devastating path of destruction throughout homeless

communities everywhere. As COVID-19 makes its way through America, those more easily affected will be the ones with the least medical care. Why? Because many homeless people do not have the privilege to self-quarantine, receive ongoing medical care, or take medication regularly.

Whether they are living in shelters or with family, living separately may not be an option. As symptoms grow more prominent within these under-served communities, getting them tested presents unique challenges.

First, having a testing site that isn't mobile won't capture the bulk of the people who need to be tested.

Second, food insecurity is expanding with churches, food pantries, and soup kitchens being shut down, and homeless community members are relying on the kindness of others to help keep them alive.

Is that enough? No. We've got to stand together in the midst of this crisis, and fight for the lives of everyone. Want to know how you can help? Below, is an easy way to make a positive impact on your community.

  1. Get a sandwich-sized Ziploc Bag

  2. Fill the bag with a travel sized hand sanitizer, pack of Kleenex, and a snack.

  3. Put filled bag in your car.

  4. Give it to a homeless community member.

You can also donate to local nonprofit organizations if you'd prefer. We are all in this together. Their lives, our lives, all lives matter.
